Today is your day.

You’re off and away!

Lessons Learned and Learning

During my job search, supervision has been an area of experience that I have lacked in previous positions. My current position has afforded me a great deal of opportunities to develop as a supervisor as well as to make some tough and unpopular decisions.

I wasn’t sure of what to expect starting in this position, but I knew my style and personality and am happy to say that they’ve remained pretty much in tact this summer. Typically, I’m an easy-going supervisor- if things are going as they should, I’m okay with allowing some freedoms for my staff within reason. I try to remain positive, see the good in others and situations and may be slow to discipline if I think that my staff will grow more from discovering their own mistakes in a timely, reasonable manner. I hope to seem approachable and relaxed but am by no means a push-over.

This position has reinforced my desire to further grow as a supervisor as well since I know that every job has different demands and challenges to work around at times. I’ll admit that I need more experience having tough conversations with students and my staff at times when things aren’t going as they ought to go. Recently, however, I have been a part of a number of these discussions as we have shifted our staff for significant reasons. They haven’t been easy at times, to be quite honest, but I’ve learned some valuable lessons in the process.

I know that comfort comes with time and experience so I’m hoping for the best with upcoming interviews. And, as always, I’m continuously looking for ways to grow and potential openings that fit my needs and interests.

Everything falls to pieces exactly as it should.
